Ballarat is a melting pot of arts, culture, music and entertainment.
It is a city that has always been full of creative energy, and we’re ready to showcase this to the world.
There is a vibrant community of professional creatives, including teachers and students from Federation University Australia’s Arts Academy. There are regular exhibitions at a range of public and private galleries across the region, including Ballarat's iconic Post Office Gallery, Backspace Gallery and the magnificent Art Gallery of Ballarat - Australia’s oldest and largest regional art gallery.
From cabaret and theatre, to live music and comedy, a range of shows are regularly presented in Ballarat. Each year more than 75,000 patrons are entertained by more than 15,000 performers who take to its stage. Her Majesty's Theatre has become a much-loved venue which has played host to some of the world’s best performers while holding a special place in the heart of generations of local residents and performers.
Our arts and culture scene is boosted by the growing number of event organisers choosing to host their major events in Ballarat, including White Night and Ballarat International Foto Biennale. This is in addition to events held during the year hosted by the City of Ballarat, including Heritage Weekend, Begonia Festival, and Winter Festival.
We also want to grow and expand our creative industries sector to digital games developers, fashion designers, architects, film makers, publishers and makers, so it becomes a key economic sector in Ballarat. This aspiration is supported by the Creative City Strategy, which was endorsed by the City of Ballarat in May 2019.
