Unlike most metropolitan cities, Ballarat offers affordable housing options. Whether you are looking for a grand period home on a historic tree-lined street, a block of land to build your dream home, or an inner city apartment - Ballarat has it all.
Recent statistics released by the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) indicate that the median house price in Ballarat at the March 2019 quarter had increased to $395,000, representing an 11.3% increase from March 2018 (REIV 2019). In comparison, Ballarat continues to be the affordable alternative to the City of Greater Geelong ($565,000) and metropolitan Melbourne ($793,000).
The Ballarat West Growth Area is the heart of new residential development to the west of the CBD. The Ballarat West Growth Area will cater primarily for residential growth and provide services and infrastructure for new communities.
This area comprises of 1,717ha of greenfield land located to the west of Alfredton, Delacombe and Sebastopol, providing around 18,000 new houses to accommodate a population of over 40,000 people.
We are committed to planning for the future growth of the city, with development of the Ballarat West Growth Area and the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ) well underway. Ballarat Link Road stage 1 has also been completed and provides a direct link between the growth area, BWEZ and the Western Highway.
These initiatives ensure the city can accommodate population growth in a sustainable manner, capitalise on investment opportunities and improve efficiency of transportation.
