Digital Transformation

Ballarat is home to a thriving and established information technology sector, one of the largest in regional Australia. International tech giant IBM established a data and service centre in Ballarat in 2009 and the city has recently attracted international cyber security technology company CT4. Both IBM and CT4 have established a training partnership with Federation University, with the university developing programs to meet industry demand, while preparing students for their future careers with real work experience.

Digital health has been an emerging sector in Australia for well over a decade, with events in early 2020 elevating it to a priority sector. Digital health solutions have been born in Ballarat and it is now home to the only regional office of Telstra Health, the largest digital health technology company in Australia.

In line with national trends, our strong manufacturing industry is becoming more advanced, with inter-dependencies between services, design, and digital technologies. Ballarat is ideally placed to continue to grow its advanced manufacturing capabilities, as demonstrated in sectors ranging from automotive componentry to food manufacturing and related agricultural technologies.

We have a highly skilled workforce, connected international supply chains, exceptional design and engineering expertise, technology parks and a university presence to support skills, research and development (R&D).
