Ballarat is the centre of the new energy future.

Located in the centre of more than 60% of the renewable energy generation in Victoria, Ballarat is ideally positioned to become an operational hub for the industry with the city already home to wind energy operators, and service and maintenance crews.

The Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Tech-Transition Centre (APRETC) is also being established in Ballarat by Federation University to meet training and research demands in the renewable energy sector. APRETC will be the only globally recognised training centre in Australia.

The City of Ballarat has long been a supporter of new and innovative solutions to both power supply and security, and waste management, as enablers of our ambition to become a leader in the circular economy.

The City is actively researching alternative energy generation and storage solutions to provide environmentally sustainable and secure energy supply for future growth across the economy and community. This includes aspirations to be Australia’s first Hydrogen City, and the continued advocacy for an energy recovery facility to be located at the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ), as a key component of the Waste Resource Precinct.

The City also actively engages with both the State and Federal Governments on policy and project reviews, with several submissions provided over the past 12 months.
